Jammu, June 18: Dilapidated roads and lanes coupled with blocked drains are enough to puncture tall claims of successive coalition governments which claims that Jammu City would be developed on the pattern of Smart City as various wards lack basic civic amenities like water, cleanliness and streetlights.
Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times who would be contesting forthcoming assembly election from the Gandhi Nagar constituency as an Independent candidate on Tuesday conducted extensively tour of Deshmesh Nagar of Digiana, and JMC's Ward No. 56 and 58 as part of mass contact programme.
During his mass contact programme, residents of these localities narrated their day-to-day problems like dilapidated roads, lanes and by lanes coupled with blocked drainage system and also castigated the role of former MLA Kavinder Gupta and its lieutenant Baldev Singh Billowaria who recently contested Municipal Corporation election from the Ward No. 56 (Gangyal area).
"The local Councillor had made promises that after winning from the area, all the development issues would be carried out on priority basis but after getting elected, he forgot all the development issues. People of locality not even getting basic civic amenities. Garbage are littered along the road, empty plots has turned into garbage heaps where local dumps all the garbage there due to lack of dustbin", said Hem Raj.
Charan Singh, local said that however, the Baldev Singh who represent his ward as councillor but he never visit our ward. Some lanes where some influential people who has political affiliation with BJP, their lane and drain were well maintained and remaining were facing step motherly treatment. "Today, Safai Karamchari have visited the areas and carried out cleanliness drive. They cleared his blocked drains but the silt is still lying along the drain and emanating foul smell", said Sudha Mehra.
Harpreet Singh and Inder Pal Singh of Deshmesh Colony told Munish Gupta that on one hand our drains are lying dilapidated. Owing to flowing of drain into the lanes, pot holes have become widen, result of it, the commuters facing difficulties.
"After getting elected, Kavinder Gupta visited the areas with Baldev Singh Billowaria then District President of BJP and started some lanes and drain works but all the works are lying abandon due to unknown reason", said Bansi Lal resding backside of Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Gangyal.
Kulbant Singh told Munish Gupta that after repeated urged to JMC have yield nothing. We constructed lanes on their own expenses but they aren't connected with sewerage nallah.
"The callousness on part of JMC can be gauged from this fact that the department concerned not even installed the streetlights, electric poles and even dustbin in our areas so far. In some lane where streetlights were installed were lying fused", said Paviter Kour. She further said that we are residing here from last many years but still not registered here as voter.
"Sonia (20) who is specially abled girl but is not getting her pension from last many months. Her mother told Munish, once a week she visits to Social Welfare Office to release her pending pension but the officials never heed to matter", said Santosh Kumari, Mother of Sonia.
