Cornered Mehbooba turns indecisive
Daughter says can’t speak on her mother’s behalf
2/5/2020 11:23:07 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 5: Iltija Mufti, daughter of the former J&K chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, has hinted that her mother is indecisive about her future course of action.
“I don’t know whether my mother will fight for restoration of J&K’s special status. I don’t know what will be her future course of action. Once she is out, she has to chalk out what she has to do. I can’t decide or speak for anyone else, including my mother,” a Srinagar based news agency quoted Iltija has having said.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “Iltija has been issuing statements on behalf of her mother since August 5, 2019, when Mehbooba was placed under detention. She has been even handling her mother’s twitter account. After six months she is saying she cannot speak on her mother’s behalf. It’s bit strange.”
He said, “Iltija’s statement looks like an indication that Mehbooba wants to soften her stand so that her detention ends. Most politicians, who were detained on and after August 5, 2019 have been released, only a dozen odd are lodged at MLA Hostel in Srinagar now.”
It’s in place to mention here that other two former chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, have maintained complete silence since August 5. “Omar who used to be active 24x7 on the twitter has not even made an attempt to restart his twitter handle. He has not authorized any of his family members to operate his account on his behalf,” an observer said.
“The Kashmir centric politicians, who have been set free during the past few months have assured the J&K administration that they won’t rake up any controversial issue. Same assurance is being sought from the three former chief ministers of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir” the observer claimed.
Another analyst said, “It seems Mehbooba Mufti too has realized that she has been left alone as her trusted lieutenants have deserted her and they are in the process of coming up with a political front which would play an active role in Kashmir politics.”
He said, “Mehbooba has been left with only a few options. If she continues to remain adamant, she could end up on the wrong side as the Centre has made it clear that no rhetoric will be tolerated. Her party stands decimated and there is every possibility about other leaders taking the control.”
