Four years on, Degree College Sunderbani still functions inside school building | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: Despite lapse of more than four years, Degree College Sunderbani continues to function in the overcrowded building of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Sunderbani. What to talk of acquiring land for the construction of this college; the authorities are yet to nominate an agency for carrying out this process. This is the status of the college which was to be constructed under the state sector after being sanctioned in the year 2011-12. Government has now promised to complete the process of land acquisition but preferred not to fix a target date for completion of this exercise. These spine chilling revelations about Sunderbani Degree College were made by Congress MLC Ravinder Sharma while asking a supplementary of his questionC.Q.No. 381. Replying in behalf of Minister for Higher Education, MOS Cooperative Manohar Lal said that the Government Degree College, Sunderbani was sanctioned during 2011-12 under State Sector and has been made functional in a makeshift accommodation. The Minister further informed that at present, 270 students are enrolled in the College. He said as many as 21 posts of various categories stand created for the College. He said out of 10 created posts of Assistant Professors, 9 have been filled by way of academic arrangements. Dr. Manohar informed that land measuring 83 kanals-3 marlas has been identified at village Bhajwal- Sunderbani for construction of College complex for which an amount of Rs. 1.40 crore is kept available with the department for taking up construction work on Degree College during 2013-14. Minister informed that Government Degree College, Nowshera was sanctioned during 2007-08 under Phase 2nd of the Prime Minister's Re-construction Plan (PMRP) and was made functional in 2008 in makeshift accommodation for which 14 posts of Assistant Professors in 29 posts of various categories stand created. Dr. Manohar informed that land measuring 102 kanals-3 marlas including 46kanlas-5 marlas of private land at Nonial, Tehsil Nowshera has been transferred to the Higher Education Department for establishment of College. He said Rs. 1.19 crore as land compensation has been released to the Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri for disbursement among land owners. |
