Jammu, Jan 11: Call it a sorry state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir that there are more than 19,000 schools in Jammu region of the state that are functioning sans basic facilities. With Valley witnessing betterment in educational infrastructure, figures show dismal performance of education department in Jammu.
According to the official data, Jammu region of the state has 19273 schools wherein toilet facility, Drinking water, government building or compound walling is missing. Such figures while unmasking the tall claims of the state authorities over ensuring betterment in state's education sector have once again proved how Jammu schools are being neglected and forgotten. Children in these schools are being denied the quality education, hence bellying the claims of advanced system of learning and teaching.
Details reveal that in total, Jammu and Kashmir has 232 such schools wherein toilet facility for children isn't available and out of these 232 schools. 228 are located in Jammu region while as Kashmir has mere 4 such schools.
Further, there are 2817 schools in the entire state wherein there is no drinking facility available for children. Out of these 2817 schools, 2509 are located in Jammu region while as Kashmir valley has just 308 such schools.
Data reveals further that the schools without compound walling in Jammu and Kashmir are 11562 in number. Out of this, 7835 schools are located in Jammu region only which comprises of more than 67 p

As far as the laboratory facilities are concerned, there are total 470 schools in Jammu and Kashmir which do not have a laboratory for children. Out of these 470 schools, 272 are located in Jammu region.
Jammu region has 762 schools without the library facility available for children. At a time when the government claims of ensuring betterment in sports infrastructure in schools, asking children to actively take part in extra- co curricular activities, there are more than five thousand schools in Jammu region of the state have no play grounds. 105 schools in the region are functioning without Headmasters or Principals. 1257 schools in Jammu have no subject teachers. And finally, there are 683 schools in JK which have recorded less than 30 percent of the result. Again of out of these 683 schools, 476 which is around 70 percent in total, are in Jammu region of the state.
The date, which proves a jaw dropping entity for everyone has left aside the developmental aspects and has highlighted how the Jammu region us is being ignored and left out in terms of education facilities too. More ironic and worrisome trend is that not even a single voice is being heard that could have asked the helmsmen over such discrimination with the children of Jammu who too have a right of quality education. According to the department of education, there are in total 23684 government schools in Jammu and Kashmir including 3904 clubbed schools. The state has in total 5292 private schools as well.
