Jammu, Apr 17: Lucky Gupta, the Jammu based actor performed his 1065th play 'Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana De' in SRML Model HSS Parade Jammu today. The touching mono drama enthralled the students which showed journey of a young boy's struggle to get education and value of a teacher.
The actor has already held shows of the same play in different institutions of districts like Jammu, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban, Srinagar, Budgam and Anantnag, and also in other parts of the country.
Inculcating the value and importance of education in one's life, especially children, the play 'Maa Mujhe Tagore Bana Do', is based on a Punjabi story written by Mohan Bhandari. It is a saga of dedication, determination and resolve of a son of poor brick kiln labourer, who despite abject poverty and setbacks in childhood, hopes to be like Tagore in life and write poetry like him.
The best part of the production is that being a single-actor performance designed and directed by Lucky Gupta, it is almost minimal in theatre props. The play was held in open after prayer where children sat in a semi-circle. The performances wherein he speaks the lines of the play moving among the children leave a great impact upon the audience. His speech, movements and mannerism and minimum props leave the audience with an intimate experience of the theatre. Lucky Gupta under a unique personal initiative to popularize theatre amongst the children started series of solo shows of the play many years back and has been performed without any support from Government and society. Shafqat Javed Chib, Principal SRML Model HSS lauded the unflinching hard work put in by Lucky Gupta for inspiring both students and teachers.
