Early Times Report

Rajouri, Sept 23: "What would be the future of poor students of government schools whose parents can't afford their education in expensive private institutions, when out of three posts of teachers in a primary school two are vacant," asks a parent of Rajouri district.
He was referring to government primary school at Upper Bhatian under Thanamandi education zone where only one teacher is available for about 18 students. Instead of caring for their studies, the lone teacher was found involved in making money out of Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme for students.
For providing wrong information to the visiting team of Education department, the lone teacher has been placed under suspension by the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Rajouri. Also, a probe has been initiated.
The matter came to light when a team constituted by the CEO visited government primary school at Uppar Bhatian and found only seven students present in the school out of 18.
The team also found that the classrooms were in a dilapidated condition and presented a dirty look. No MDM was served to the students and their academic standard was very poor. Not only this, the only teacher namely Aurangzeb had written in the daily register that MDM was served to 11 students on that day.
"When asked about the MDM, students informed the visiting team that the teacher was providing MDM on alternative days to misappropriate the funds and ration," said a senior Education Officer.
On the report of the team Ch Lal Hussain, CEO has suspended the teacher, and the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) has been asked to conduct inquiry and furnish the report for further action under rules.
