Early Times Report
srinagar, Sept 23: At a time when the state government claims that its coffers are empty and as such cannot fulfill demands of lower rung employees like Anganwari workers stage is all set to organize a musical concert on the banks of world famous Dal Lake.
The musical concert is all likely to be held in the summer capital of the state in the first week of October. Celebrated Pakistani singer Adnan Sami is all set to lead a musical troupe and hold the concert on the banks of Dal Lake near the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). If all goes well then the programme would be held on October 7.
The state government more so the Department of Tourism believes that the concert would be a hit among the people and it would help in reviving tourism in the valley. Last week a musical concert was organized on the banks of Dal Lake. Singer Aabha Hanjura enthralled the people present during the programme.
Sources told Early Times that since the Adnan Sami concert is being organized by Department of Tourism all the expenses on this account would be borne by the Jammu & Kashmir government. The expenditure would run into lakhs of rupees thus putting a burden on a poor state like Jammu & Kashmir.
It would be in place to mention here that state government categorically told the striking Anganwari workers and helpers that it is not in a position to hike their monthly honorarium. This is despite the fact that the Anganwadi workers and helpers are paid few hundred rupees as monthly honorarium.
For the last one week or so, the Anganwari workers and helpers are on a strike in the heart of Srinagar city. These people are demanding hike in their monthly honorarium. Some days back some of the protesters tried to immolate themselves while pressing for their demands during the protest demonstration. Even this desperate attempt did not move the government and the people at helm are enjoying like anything.
The state government vehemently told the protesting Anganwari workers and helpers that since the coffers are empty it is not in a position to hike their monthly honorarium. One fails to understand if the coffers are empty where from the money comes that gets utilized in organizing musical concerts held in the name of tourism promotion in Kashmir.
Pertinent to mention here, the recently appointed vice-chairperson of various corporations and public sector undertakings of the state were recently given brand new vehicles. This caused a huge burden on the state ex-chequer, but who cares. The state government is happy over the same since the appointment of vice-chairpersons is politically motivated and the concerned persons belong to Bharatiya Janta Party and Peoples Democratic Party.
