|Corruption, huge embezzlement of funds in MC has ruined reputation|
|Some officers considered as dead wood|
Early Times Report
KUPWARA, Oct 25: The government has left no stone unturned in providing huge assistance in terms of man power and money to the ULBK but the same has not been utilized in various municipal committees across the Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reliable sources that, "Seven Executive Officers (EOs) were posted and transferred from Handwara Municipal committee from 2006 till 2017 and many times audits were conducted to find the records in correct nature.
In June, the audit was conducted in MC Handwara, after which it was found that there is a huge embezzlement of funds worth Rs in Lakhs, sources pleading anonymity told Early Times.
Sources said that embezzlement of funds worth Rs 40 lakh was reported in MC Handwara, the clerk was held but main culprits were left untouched and nothing more like grabbing's and illicit cases was addressed.
Only Rs 34 lakh has been deposited by the concerned clerk in the MC chest, where as rest of the money is still pending and Vigilance Organization has not taken any notice of the huge embezzlement of funds which took place in the department concerned, said sources.
Sources said that many times in the recent past, we approached the former director ULBK Riyaz Wani, but no concrete or stern action whatsoever was not taken till date.
If the government is serious in bringing the reforms in the department concerned, otherwise the day is not far when it will lose its glory and trust, said sources.
The concerned department has become a money minting industry and swindling of funds from one account to another has become order of the day, adding racket of fake engagements, up gradations and regularizations of 3400 employees were exposed in 2011, sources informed.
They said that, among the huge score of fake employees, only 2 culprits were punished as dead-woods and rest was left to enjoy their positions with honor and dignity.
Irony of the fact is that, there is huge flow of money from the state government for the welfare of general public and the assistance and manpower is not being properly utilized by the concerned department.
Watchdog and other related agencies should probe into the matter so that something exemplary comes out in relation to the cases which are pending since long, sources added.
