Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 13: Trouble for the incumbent R&B Minister in the present regime could be gauged by the fact that a minister having an entirely different portfolio in the government on Sunday inaugurated the road project that was ought to be inaugurated by the R&B Minister. Reports inform that 12km Bijbehara-Anantnag stretch of the prestigious four-lane Srinagar- Qazigund highway project by the Minister for Revenue, Disaster Management, Relief Rehabilitation & Reconstruction, Abdul Rehman Veeri on Sunday and not by incumbent R&B Minister Naeem Akhtar Andrabi.
Akhtar who currently heads the R&B department in the state was in news recently when to the utter surprise of his party. He attended the annual convention of the BJP in Kashmir Valley. He was the only PDP leader who attended the convention and if sources are to be believed, his own party members were unaware about Akhtar's any such move.
Reports added further that the wedge between him and his party was evident when a former R&B Minister Abdul Rahman Veeri inaugurated the road project in South Kashmir and Akhtar was nowhere in sight.
As per the eye witnesses, even the senior officers of the R&B and of the district were shocked when instead of Akhtar whom they were expecting to inaugurate the project, they saw Veeri at the centre stage. The Minister was accompanied by SE R&B Anantnag, ADC Anantnag, representatives of Ramkay and National Highway Authority of India.
He asserted that better road connectivity is pivotal for bringing speedy socio-economic transformation in the State besides boosting activities of other sectors and State's overall development.
With the inauguration of Bijbhehra- Anantnag stretch, the vehicles will cover around 2 km less distance to reach Anantnag and will also minimize the traffic jams in the Bijbhehra town. The four-lane highway comprises of five sections- Qazigund Bypass, Bijbehara Bypass Awantipora Bypass, Pampore Bypass and widening of existing Highway. Earlier in the month of October, Pampore bypass stretch was thrown open for the public.
An official divulged that Veeri was giving directions like that of the R&B Minister and he even stressed on better coordination and teamwork of different Departments for speedy and better quality work under different Government schemes.
On October 13, this year, it was however Akhtar who inaugurated the four lane highway comprises of five sections. Qazigund Bypass (total 3. 85 kms, completed length 3.00 kms), Bijbehara Bypass (total 12.7 kms, completed 10.00 kms) Awantipora Bypass (total 7.34 kms, completed 4.00 kms), Pampore Bypass total 9 kms, completed 9 kms) and widening of existing Highway (31.37 kms, completed 29 km). Terming it as the beginning of an era of unprecedented connectivity, Akhtar inaugurated the first section of what he termed the 'prestigious' four lane Srinagar-Qazigund Highway project.
Meanwhile, sources informed that there were plethora of questions raised by the PDP workers when Akhtar this month attended the BJP convention that too , as per insiders, not even keeping his party leadership informed.
Meanwhile, while inaugurating the road stretch on Sunday by Veeri, there was no word about the reason behind Akhtar's absence who as per the official protocol who supposed to inaugurate the vital road link. The PDP has so far kept the answer to this question to itself.
