Compulsory GP fund account order: NPS employees smell rat
1/12/2018 10:58:41 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: Thousands of employees engaged under New Pension Scheme (NPS) have alleged conspiracy behind the order issued by the government , asking all the employees to have compulsory GP fund account with assigned GP fund numbers.
The government had issued SRO-12 on January 11, directing all the government employees engaged on or after 1/1/2010 to have compulsory GP Fund account with assigned GP fund numbers. Though the contribution from the employees into the GP account will be voluntary but opening of account is compulsory, which has raised suspicion among the employees.
Employees engaged under NPS informed Early Times that from the SRO it was amply clear that government was short of funds. "The government has announced in the ongoing budget session that benefits of the seventh pay commission will be given from January 2016 but from March 2018. The arrears of 26 months from January 2016-March 2018 are likely to be deposited by the government in these new accounts and none of the employee would get any arrears shortly", an employee said.
The employees further said that once there would be transfer of funds into the GP fund account of the employees, most of NPS employees would continue to contribute in the accounts to keep the account active.
"We the employees engaged before 1/1/2010 want to get rid of GP fund account, because it is very cumbersome exercise to get the GP fund back. You can only deduct GP fund for some time but the amount must be returned to the employee. In this way, all the NPS employees would get the arrears of 7th pay commission, after their retirement", the employees claimed.
Already NPS employees have been depositing 10 percent of their basic salary for NPS and how they would contribute to these new GP fund account. "It appears that conditions would be created that all the employees would have to contribute into these GP fund accounts", the employees said.
