Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: The Government confines to jugglery of words over the establishment of government degree colleges in the Jammu region of the state as it has kept the location of the new colleges as a closely guarded secret.
On the floor of the house on Friday, the government refused to divulge any details related to the locations of the proposed colleges. Such a silence has given notion that the Jammu region would again be left out and discriminated on this front as well.
Government on Friday said it hadn't yet decided over where to establish the recently announced 17 Government Degree Colleges in the state and that the modalities over the issues were being chalked out; indicating that political interference was likely to affect the decision of opening these colleges.
The reports inform that government's focus this time is to establish the colleges in Ladakh region and in the frontier districts of the Kashmir Valley. Speaking in the house on Friday, the incumbent minister didn't mention a word over how many colleges out of the 17 sanctioned ones would be given to the Jammu region of the state.
It was only stated that the government is working on the modalities to establish the colleges as soon as possible. The Minister of Education in a written reply to MLA Mohammad Yusuf Bhat over the establishment of the degree colleges in the state said that the government is yet to decide the locations of the 17 new degree colleges in the state and same is being discussed by the department of higher education.
Opening of the 17 new degree colleges was approved recently by the state cabinet and it was stated that these colleges will be established in the uncovered areas of the state. It was added further that the priority shall be accorded to uncovered assembly segments which are at present devoid of such facility.
The state cabinet on October 25, last year had approved creation of 17 new colleges in the state and had also approved up gradation of 400 government schools- 200 middle schools and 200 high schools- to their next level.
The cabinet also at that time approved creation of 8200 teachers' posts for these colleges and schools.
