Along LoC in Rajouri, cell phones get Pakistani signal
2/12/2018 10:11:56 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 12: As one proceeds towards Line of Control (LoC), where thousands of people have been living in the border villages, the signals of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) starts disappearing from the cellular phones and Pakistani signals start welcoming you on international roaming communication.
There you are almost cut from the rest of the country, world, relatives and friends and feel helpless to communicate your well being or presence in the area.
Many villages in Sunderbani, Nowshera , Keri, Ghambhir and Manjakot sectors are either situated within 5 kilometer range from the LoC or situated between Fence and LoC.
"In case of any emergency including medical the people of the area are fully dependent on private transportation or army coming to our help. Army is providing e very facility including transportation or medical help as we are unable to contact our relatives at other places in the absence of BSNL network "said Bhadur Singh, former Sarpanch.
People of border villages alleged that they have been neglected by the successive government as for as proper telecommunication network is concerned in the border areas and even the matter was taken up with the Home Minister when he visited last year to meet the border dwellers at Nowshera relief camps.
"Near the border BSNL vanishes and Pakistan network shows you on international roaming and the communication is serious issue here (near the border)" Twitted today Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhry, DDC .
The availability of Pakistani mobile phone signals near the borders is a serious issue as it has been noticed when ever militants died they were found in possession of mobile phones or satellite phones to keep in touch with their mentors across the LoC.
A senior BSNL officer at Jammu when contacted informed that the matter is under consideration and soon BSNL is going to hire the towers of Private companies who had installed their towers in such areas.
Meanwhile, after the militants killed at Sunjwan army camp were found in Army dresses, district Rajouri police have decided to check the permissions of those shopkeepers in the presence of magistrates who are selling army dresses/clothes.
