Upgradation of Parks & Gardens: Official panel to recommend measures

JAMMU, Feb 20: The government has accorded sanction to constitution of state level Steering Committee for improvement and up-gradation of Parks and Gardens in Jammu and Srinagar cities.
The committee to be headed by Chief Secretary would comprise of administrative secretaries of Finance, Planning, Development & Monitoring and Housing & Urban Development department as its members. While administrative secretary Floriculture, Parks and Gardens department would be the member secretary of the State Level Steering Committee.
The mandate of the state level Steering Committee would be to review and monitor the progress for development/up-gradation of Parks and Gardens in Jammu and Srinagar cities, suggest mechanism for flow of funds to fill gaps in providing of infrastructure or to be provided to the Parks and Gardens, ensure adequate infrastructure to Parks and Gardens in both the cities, devise strategy for green field development under the provision of Smart City Mission, quarterly review with the line departments for upholding urban green space standards and finalize draft action plan on augmentation of green spaces.
Meanwhile, the government has also constituted Divisional Level Committees for preparing Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for mapping of Parks/Gardens in both Jammu and Srinagar cities.
For Jammu division, the Committee comprises of Director Floriculture as Chairman, with, representatives of Jammu Development Authority, JK Housing Board, Urban Local Bodies, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Town Planning Organization and Public Works Landscape Division as members.
Similarly, for Kashmir division, the Committee comprises Director Floriculture as Chairman, with representatives of Srinagar Development Authority, JK Housing Board, Urban Local Bodies, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Town Planning Organization and Public works landscape division as members.
The divisional level committees have been entrusted with the task of working out modalities for maintenance of Gardens & Parks in Jammu/ Srinagar cities, identifying gaps if any, in providing infrastructure or to be provided to the Gardens and Parks as are being maintained by the Floriculture, Parks and Garden Department, submission of quarterly progress report to the SLSC, preparation of basic papers improvement/up-gradation of Parks and Gardens for consideration of the SLSC and monitoring works on ground for development/ maintenance of parks and Gardens in Jammu and Srinagar cities.
