Early Times Report
aNANTNAG, Mar 13: With Jammu And Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation continuing to extend tender submission date of a multi-crore contract, a group of contractors in this southern district on Tuesdayalleged 'foul play' and sought intervention of higher-ups.
Contractors informed Early Times that Deputy General Manager Electric of Jammu And Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation in the month of January this year floated at least seven tenders for fixing internal electrification of Anantnag medical College but still the corporation continues to issue extension dates for submitting tender documents for unknown reasons.
"We don't know the actual reason behind cancelling or extending dates for submission of bids but apparently it is only to discourage the contractors who want to participate in the tendering process," Abbas Ahmad, a contractor said.
In JKPCC, they said that it was normal routine to award contractors to blue-eyed workers but here in Anantnag we want a healthy competition.
They claimed that earlier the JKPCC didn't float tenders for civil works but they forced the corporation to float tenders of electric works, which JKPCC according to them was not going to do.
According to documents available with Early Times, tender having estimated cost of Rupees 66.41 lakh rupees was floated on 31-01-2018. Last date for submitting the tender documents was 23-02-2018; however the corporation extended this date not once but repeatedly.
Similarly, the date of submitting the tender documents of other works, valuing more than 7 crore rupees have also been extended multiple times.
Er Faisal Azmat, Deputy General Manager Unit Electric JKPCC admitted to have extended the dates for submitting the tender documents.
"Actually our consultant is making some changes as some of the components were exceeding the approved cost. So as to bring it under the approved cost, our consultant is making some changes," he said, adding a corrigendum will be issued in coming days.
