Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Mar 19: The residents of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan of Sub Division Marwah of Kishtwar District call on the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene for making government offices in Marwah Sub Division functional at Sub Division headquarter as same are functioning from District Headquarter and virtually make it of no use for the poor people of this one of the remotest area of the state.
Speaking to "Early Times", the angry people hailing from different areas of Marwah showed resentment against the administration and the government for their failure in addressing the long pending issues and demands of the people of the area having population of more than 50000 souls.
The angry people said that last year thay had also held a protest at Kishtwar and wearied black badges as a mark of protest to show its resentment towards the administration and the government who according to these agitating people are turning blind eye towards their plights, added that nothing was done even after several months were passed since then as no Office moves from District Headquarter Kishtwar to Marwah.
While talking to "Early Times", the angry youths said that even after 68 years of Independence there was no road to Marwah and Dachhan, no electricity in over 50 villages of the area, no telecommunication facility added that even the ration supplied by the government from time to time has been embezzled as a result of which the poor people of these areas were facing lot of problem.
"Our elders died while pinning hope for road connectivity, electricity and communication-now the way government and administration approaches--- it seems that our dreams too will die a natural death" said 25 year old student added that student community is the worst suffer due to non availability of teachers and good quality infrastructure in the area.
Political and social activist Abdul Wahid said that absenteeism culture and non existence of government offices sanctioned for the area are the major concern for them and demanded that government should fix the time frame for addressing all the issues and problems faced by the people of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan.
He said the government even though created a special post of Area Development Officer for Marwah some eight year ago and later give the status of Sub Division to Marwah few years ago, but neither Area Development Officer or SDM attended its office at Marwah and instead prefer to stationed at Kishtwar which is more then 120 KM from Marwah. Abdul Wahid said that many government offices designated for Marwah Sub Division are functional at District Headquarter and are functioning under the close nose of District administration with full backing of political masters.
"The people of Marwah Sub Division from time to demand shifting of all the government offices functioning at Kishtwar to Marwah, but nothing was done till date by successive governments," said Abdul Wahid.
He said that it now to to been seen whether the present government headed by Mehbooba Mufti will ensure.
shifting of these offices to Marwah or like previous governments, the present government will too turn blind eye towards this issue of public importance. He said that they also called on DC Kishtwar last week, but even after week no Office opened up at Marwah.
