JAMMU, Mar 25: Ramnavami-birth day of Lord Shri Rama, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety amidst chanting of Bhajans and hymns in praise of Maryada Purshotam. Large number of devotees visited various temples of the city and paid their obeisance and participated in Bhajans and Kirtans. Temples were specially decorated with bunting and flags.
The day also coincides with culmination of nine day long Navratra festival. The main function of Ramnavami was held in the historical Raghunath Ji Temple in Jammu city where large number of devotees worshipped and paid their obeisance to Lord Rama and other Gods and Goddesses.
On this auspicious occasion an impressive Shobha Yatra was taken out in the walled city. The Shobha Yatra started from Shri Raghunath Mandir and culminated at same place after passing through various bazaars of the city. Scores of tableau depicting life and teaching of Lord Rama were beautifying the Shobha Yatra. 'Jhankis' of various social and religious organisations participated in the procession. All the Jhankis were depicting teaching of Lord Rama which inspires us to follow the path of justice, morality and sacrifice in every aspect of life. Elaborate security arrangements were made in this connection and a heavy posse of policemen were deployed en-route of the procession. A few securitymen were seen taking positions on roof-tops, while some police officers were accompanying the Yatra.
Amidst chanting of Bhajans and religious slogans, the Shoba Yatra commenced from Raghunath Mandir Chowk and after passing through Rajinder Bazar, City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Jain Bazar, Mubarak Mandi, Moti Bazar, Raj Tilak Road, culminated again at the Raghunath temple.
The Yatra consisted of various tableau depicting the life history and teachings of Lord Rama. The procession was led by seven persons riding on horses in traditional Dogra dress which was being followed by beautifully decorated sanctum-sanctorum containing the statues of Lord Rama, Laxman and Sita.
Large number of devotees, chanting slogans in praise of Marayada Purshotam Lord Rama, accompanied the Shobha Yatra from Shri Raghunath Temple to entire city. Jai Shri Ram and Marayada Purshotam Bhagwan Ram Ki Jai repeatedly rented in the air as devotees were shouting slogans in praise of Lord Rama.
Associations of different bazaars have installed Langers and Chabbils for the devotees participating in the Shobha Yatra. Loudspeakers airing bhajans in praise of Lord Rama were also installed at all important chowks. Thousands of people thronged routes of the Shobha Yatra to have glimpses of traditional Rath which was pulled by the devotees.
