LPG connections distribution on Ujjwala Diwas on April 20 4/14/2018 11:33:39 PM Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 14: 15000 LPG Panchayats to be organized across the country to promote learning through peer group interaction 'Kuch seekhein, Kuch Sikhayein', on Ujjwala Divas under the aegis of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 1st, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of providing clean cooking fuel to BPL women and reducing the drudgery and hazards of biomass cooking. Under this scheme, a stiff target of enrolling 5 Crore customers was entrusted by Ministry to be completed by the year 2019. We have completed the enrolment of over 4.8 crore customers within 23 months of the launch of PMUY. Encouraged by the success the PMUY target enrolment has been increased to 8 crore to be achieved by 2020 as per the budget announcement on 1st of February 2018. As per the revised modalities of PMUY dt.12.03.18 has approved to increase PMUY coverage from existing 5 Cr to 8 Cr BPL households upto the FY 2019-2020.
