Tourism Deptt spends Rs 7 crores on advertisement/publicity in 8 months of FY 2017-18

SRINAGAR, Apr 15: The Directorate of Tourism Kashmir has spent whopping more than seven crores on the advertisement and publicity of tourism related activities during the first eight months of financial year 2017-18.
In response to a Right to Information (RTI) application moved by Muneer Ahmad Dand resident of Vishwa Bharti College Road, Rainawari, Srinagar the Public Information Officer (PIO) of Department of Tourism Kashmir has said that Rs. 711.03 lakhs have been spent under "Advertisement & Publicity" head as per the minutes of the publicity committee meeting.
The PIO has said that the advertisement and publicity budget is approved in publicity committee meeting held annually. The department has classified the budget under the advertisement and publicity head in various sub-heads. The budget has been fragmented under these sub-heads accordingly.
For participation in international travel events/road shows in various countries the budget has been kept as Rs 90 lakhs. An amount of 40 lakhs has been earmarked for participation in various events/activities like travel experimental show, GITB Jaipur, Kargil festival, Conde Nast traveler advertisement and Dragon Boat Championship, said the PIO.
The PIO said that Rs. 489.25 lakhs have been kept in the budget for organizing of FAM tour, publicity through OOH, Print Media/Radio, Production/Airing of promotional promos/TVCs, printing of publicity material, sponsorship of conferences/seminars, organizing of road shows, advertisement in magazines, website management and miscellaneous activities.
The department has chosen M/S. Hindustan Thompson Associates, Gurgaon as the official advertising agency at the national level. M/S. Associated Media has been selected as official creative agency at the local level for creative designing and printing banners as well as hoardings.
M/S. K2 Image Axis, Srinagar has been selected as official agency for providing of photo frames. M/S. Dar Restaurant, Srinagar has been selected for proving of Food & Beverage. M/S. Sindh Hill Camping Agency, Ganderbal has been selected for providing shamiyana/tentage services by the department.
M/S. Ahmad Motors has been selected for providing transport services. M/S. Press PR, Srinagar has been engaged as local public relations agency. M/S. Kashmir Photography Club, Srinagar has been selected as social media agency. M/S. Olympic Sports Centre has been selected as agency for supplying mementos/souvenirs. M/S. K2 Image Axis, M/S. Debonair Films, M/S. Associated Media, M/S. Cross Media Marketing, M/S. Bubble Fly Technologies have been empanelled for drone videos.
The PIO of the department has said that the Adnan Sami show was conducted by the government with the department of tourism only acting as a facilitator. The PIO has claimed that the department follows all the terms and conditions for tendering process. With regard to empanelment of local event management company with the department the PIO has said that tender has not been finalized since the matter is sub-judice in the court of law.
