Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 20: Four Trauma Centre were sanctioned by previous coalition government along National Highway in accident prone hilly districts of Jammu division to reduce mortality in road mishaps; but the purpose has been defeated as incumbent coalition government has failed to make them fully functional even after lapse of decade.
In 2008-09, the ministry of Health and Family Welfare had sanctioned four Trauma Centres for hilly districts of Doda, Ramban, Udhampur and Mahanpur area of district Kathua which is infamous for fatal accidents. Though the buildings were completed and equipment worth crores also installed inside them but requisite manpower which is necessary to make them functional was not provided so far by State Health department, defeating the initiative.
Sources informed Early Times that the callous approach of coalition government can be gauged from this fact that in Trauma Centre Mahanpur, 10 posts of specialist doctors including Ophthalmologist, Gynaecologist, ENT, Orthopaedist, Physicians, Surgeons, Physiotherapist, Anaesthetist and seven Medicals Officers (MOs) were sanctioned but ironically except one Medical Officer, all the sanctioned post of specialist doctors and MOs were lying vacant. The situation is no different in trauma centers of Ramban and Doda.
When contacted to CMO, Doda said that the building had been completed since long but the government has not sanctioned a single post of specialist doctors, MOs and paramedical staff to run the centre so far.
"In Trauma Centre at Udhampur, as specialist doctors have yet not been deputed, the District Hospital staff is being forced to run the centre with limited resources", said sources.
