Modi brushes aside Farooq's, Mehbooba's demand for resumption of Indo-Pak talks

Jammu, Apr 21: Strained relations continue between India and Pakistan.The reason being that Pakistan has neither stopped exporting terror to India,particularly to Jammu and Kashmir,nor its troops have suspended ceasefire violations.And Dr Farooq Abdullah and the Chief Minister,Mehbooba Mufti, have had to face uneasy moments when their pending demand for resumption of India Pakistan dialogue has not been considered by New Delhi.
And Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, seems to be annoyed with Pakistan that he has not cherished a meeting with his Pakistan counterpart during the meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government in London.Brushing aside the pending demand of Mehbooba Mufti,Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah and other Kashmir centric political leaders Modi did not meet his Pakistani counterpart Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London and no such meeting is planned for immediate future, the External Affairs Ministry said.Prior to the prime minister's visit, the MEA had said last week that Modi was unlikely to have bilateral talks with the Pakistani premier at the summit.
No meeting took place with the Pakistani prime minister. There is no plan to have any (meeting).This indicates anger on the part of Modi and New Delhi.Modi did not want to weaken the vote bank of the BJP by agreeing to open bilateral dialogue process with Khaqan Abbasi.And when Modi had landed in Lahore in 2015 while returning from Afghanistan simply to bless Nawaz Sharif's grandaughter's wedding this meeting was berated by the Congress and other opposition leaders which wanted result oriented talks
The prime ministers of India and Pakistan last met in December 2015, when Modi, in an unplanned visit, landed in Lahore on his way back from Afghanistan and attended then Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif's granddaughter's wedding. However, relations turned frosty after the Pathankot terror attack in January, 2016 and another strike by terrorists on an Army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir in September that year.And Modi's any meeting with Abbasi could have set the rivers in India or fire because neither Pakistan has suspended export of terror nor halted ceasefire violations.
Neither Farooq Abdullah nor Mehbooba Mufti are wrong in demanding resumption of Indo-Pak talks simply to promote peace in Kashmir. But Modi has something different in his mind and he would like to adopt tough postures against Pakistan simply to strengthen the vote bank of the BJP in the context of Assembly elections in a few states and in the light of General elections of 2019.He seems to avoid repeating his mistakes in the name of winning friends when Pakistan continues to be number one enemy after China.This way the main issues of settlement of the Kashmir problem and ensuring peace in Kashmir may get further delayed.
