Embarrassed Kishtwar police book ET Correspondent on flimsy ground

kishtwar, May 15: Embarrassed by the ET report highlighting police high handedness and torture of the family members of one Akther Hussain Hajam of Keshwan Kishtwar, Kishtwar police have registered an FIR against ET correspondent on flimsy ground.
As per the content of FIR No. 117/2018 registered U/S /504/505/500 RPC Dated 13-5-2018, filed on the basis of the complaint of SSP Kishtwar Abrar Ahmed Chowdhary with Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana; the Early Times report filed in its 19-4-2018 edition by its Kishtwar correspondent, was a bid to instigate the people of Kishtwar District.
The ET report was based on the statement of the brother of the victim Akther Hussain claiming that his brother was put to torture by the Kishtwar police and kept under illegal detention for several days as a result of which he was later shifted to Government Medical College Jammu in critical condition. Akther's family also approached the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kishtwar leveling allegations of torture against the police and refuted police version that Akther attempted suicide inside the bathroom of the Police Station Kishtwar.
Following SSP Kishtwar's letter, District Magistrate (DC) Kishtwar directed the SHO Police Station Kishtwar to register an FIR against the Early Times Correspondent which according to legal experts is not within the jurisdiction of District Magistrate as 505 RPC is a special offence trial in the court of District Principal and Session Judge.
Several political and non political persons including journalist from different parts of the state condemned police FIR against the Early Times Correspondent and called upon the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to stop harassing the journalist by reining the police officers. They also called for immediate withdrawal of FIR against the correspondent.
