Kishtwar: Health employees banned from talking to media

Kishtwar, May 16: Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kishtwar, Dr. Abdul Majeed Malik, Wednesday issued a circular banning health employees from issuing statements to media.
Dr Malik authorized Deputy CMO, Medical Superintendent, District Tuberculosis Officer, and Block Medical Officers to issues statements, if any, on part of the Health department in their respective jurisdictions.
The CMO stated in the circular (No. CMO/K/378-86) that "it has been noticed that some subordinate doctors/officials of this department are issuing statements in media regarding various programs of the department on their own in order to gain undue publicity or limelight; although they are not authorized to issue any statement on behalf of the department."
"In view of the above it is impressed upon that no official other than Dy. CMO, Medical Superintendent, District Tuberculosis Officer and Block Medical Officers will issue any kind of statement regarding any program of the department in print, electronic or social media without being authorized for same by this office."
He stated that the violators would be dealt with stringent possible action.
Speaking to Early Times, a doctor working under NRHM said that some media persons carry news items on their own and that all are working for the welfare of the department. He said that if department gets positive coverage in the media, the senior officials should be thankful to them rather than barring them from such activities and called upon the senior officials to withdraw this circular.
