BJP's central leadership humilates, discredits own party in J&K

Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 16: By announcing unilateral ceasefire for the holy month of Ramzan, central leadership of BJP has not only discredited but also humiliated its state unit. By throwing proposal of its state unit not to announce ceasefire into the dustbin, the central leadership of BJP has once again sent a message to the PDP that there is no need to give any importance to the local BJP leadership.
Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh while unilaterial announcing ceasefire has made it clear that for central leadership of BJP, Engineer Rashid is more impotant than 25 party MLAs. In the all party meeting which was held at Srinagar on May 9, Engineer Rashid had given that proposal.
On the every next day, state BJP had rejected the proposal by calling it security risk. "The BJP does not endorse the idea of unilateral ceasefire-a suggestion that did not come under discussion during all party meeting. It was not put to consensus. The army has maintained a pressure on militants and it is now the time to strengthen the hands of army. This is not the stage or time for unilateral ceasefire," Sunil Sethi, BJP chief spokesperson, had stated on May 10.
On May 9, the Chief Minister had claimed that the APM suggested the Centre to announce a "unilateral cessation of hostilities" in view of the coming month of Ramzan and Amarnath yatra to extend relief to common masses.
BJP's chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi, while rejecting the suggestion on very next day had stated, "It is not in the interest of the nation". He said the time was not ripe for the ceasefire and such decisions would discourage army and security forces fighting a decisive battle in Kashmir Valley.
Sethi said a majority of listed militants had been killed while the remaining would be eliminated soon. "Under prevailing circumstances, the continuity of Operation All-Out is must and the pressure maintained by the Army on militants needs to be continued. The proposal of unilateral ceasefire, made by independent MLA from Langate Engineer Abdul Rashid would give the holed up militants a chance of regrouping," he added.
