Exam cancelled on PM's visit in Valley, Jammu youth forced to appear in exams
Bias against Jammu youth exposed again
5/20/2018 10:58:43 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 20: Once again the state government, especially the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) authorities have shown their bias against the Jammu youth.
On Saturday, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Kashmir, the exam of general line teachers in the Valley was rescheduled. But in Jammu, during the Dogra Swabhiman rally, the exam was not rescheduled and the aspirants were forced to appear in it.
Scores of aspirants reached late in their examination centres in Jammu due to traffic jams at various places from Kathua to Jammu. The aspirants were initially denied the permission to appear in examination and were allowed only after one hour late. They were not however given any extra time, evoking strong resentment among them.
Criticizing the JKSSB authorities and district administration Jammu, the aspirants said that on one hand the administration had given the permission for Dogra Swabhiman rally but didn't care about the hundreds of aspirants who had to appear in the entrance test for general line teachers.
"The administration was aware that large crowd would turn up for Dogra Swabhiman rally and there would be jams everywhere but it doesn't care for the youth of Jammu who had to face difficulties", an aspirant said.
Another aspirant from Kathua said that the exam was scheduled to start at 12 pm but the entry in the examination centres was allowed till 11 am. "Hundreds of aspirants especially from Kathua, Samba, Hirangar and other areas had to face traffic jam at various places and they only reached there at 12:30 pm", an aspirant said.
A member of monitoring staff said that initially the district administration Jammu didn't permit the staff to allow the latecomers. "But at around 12:30 pm, the ADC Jammu Arun Manhas directed the staff to allow the latecomers but with instructions that no extra time would be given to the aspirants", the monitoring staff member said.
The monitoring staff members further said that many aspirants reached the examination centres at 1 pm but were not given extra time and their papers were snatched at scheduled time of 3 pm. "We didn't get extra time and it was not the fault of the aspirants but of the administration, which gives step motherly treatment to aspirants of Jammu division", an aspirant said.
On May 19, the entrance examination for the posts of general line teachers was scheduled to be held in Kashmir valley, which was rescheduled for May 27 by JKSSB, in view of the Prime Minister's visit to Kashmir valley and strike call by separatists.
Moreover the examinations in Kashmir University were also rescheduled. "In Jammu everyone was aware that large crowd would turn up for the Dogra Swabhiman rally. But administration refused to cancel the exams in advance, which only speaks the discriminatory treatment with Jammu youth", the aspirants alleged.
