Dostana: After Babus, 'Birbal' rushes to Nowhatta to please Mirwaiz
5/20/2018 11:55:49 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 20: A few days after senior officials from the administration rushed to the Jamia Masjid and its vicinity in the wake of a tweet by separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that he was not satisfied with the working of the dispensation, government spokesman and minister for Public Works Department Naeem Akhter visited the Nowhatta locality.
Sources said the Mirwaiz was already aware of the visit of the minister and thus had asked his supporters not to stage any protests against the minister's visit but to "allow him have a hassle free movement" in otherwise hostile Nowhatta.
After the killing of DSP Ayoub Pandith in Ramzan last year, Akhter is the first senior minister to have visited the "hostile area".
Akhter had taken a battery of senior officials along and is understood to have assured the activists of Mirwaiz present there about proper development of the area.
Sources said since the day Mirwaiz had tweeted like "his Excellency" that he is not satisfied with the working of the administration, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has improved relations with the separatist leader.
Sources said some ministers from the ruling PDP have conveyed to Mirwaiz through backchannel that "his interests in the area will be taken care of."
Officials said it would not have been possible for the minister from the ruling PDP to have visited the area unless and until Mirwaiz would have given a go ahead.
"If he was not interested in the visit, his supporters would have staged protests against the minister who doesn't enjoy good among the people even in his native north Kashmir," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
Earlier this month, on May 14 morning, Mirwaiz tweeted that he was not satisfied with the civil administration towards Jamia Masjid Nowhatta affairs.
"Held an Auqaf meeting to take stock of preparations for holy month of #Ramadhan .Civil admin totally defunct especially the SMC! Total apathy towards #JamiaMasjid and its surroundings, even basic amenities not available! Why such apathy and callousness I ask?" Mirwaiz had tweeted.
As if the tweet from the anti-India stooge was a royal edict that the Housing and Urban development ministry immediately sent a high level team of officials including SMC Commissioner Reyaz Ahmed Wani to the area.
Naeem Akhter's visit follows the previous development.
Despite repeated attempts the Minster for PWD couldn't be contacted for comments.
