Pesky power cuts in Jammu leave devotees high and dry in Ramadan month

Early Times Report
Jammu, May 24: Pesky power cuts in Jammu region have left the devotees in lurch in the holy month of Ramadan.
People are finding it hard to cope with sweltering heat in the holy month of Ramadan as the unscheduled power cuts have made it difficult for them to beat the heat.
A resident while talking to Early Times said, "It has been a trend that soon after Durbar shifts from Jammu PDD resorts to curtailment and people are left helpless as the electronic gadgets like air conditioners, coolers and fans become defunct. This year PDD has not even spared the devotees." "Dozens of localities in Jammu circle are complaining about power cuts. The temperature these days has crossed above 40 °C. "Surviving without electricity in these temperatures is next to impossible. Muslim brethren who are fasting in this holy month have been left at Almighty's mercy and the people at the helm seem to have no regard for them," said another resident.
An expert said that one of the major reasons for power cuts are poor quality cables used by the Power Development Department. "These cables get heated and get burnt. This leads to tripping and snapping of the electricity."
Complaints about burnt wires and transformers are pouring in from different areas owing to the unbearable summer season. "The burnt cables not only cause power issues but these can also become a reason for major fire incident as the mercury is rising with every passing day," the expert added.
Power cuts are not confined to Jammu city only. These have spread to other areas of the district also. "
People allege that ministers are least bothered about common man as most of them are enjoying in the Valley so there is hardly anyone whom they can approach. Apart from that, students are the worst sufferers as they have to prepare for upcoming exams.
Even fully metered areas are facing unscheduled cuts.
"Moreover voltage fluctuation has become a major issue as neither refrigerators nor the air conditioners are work properly. The cuts of around five-six hours have become routine," said a resident.
