Sports Council assures support for Deaf & Dumb sports activities

Jammu, June 2: The first ever Jammu District Sports Meet for Hearing and Speech impaired children concluded here today with a well- attended prize distribution function. More than fifty differently abled youth participated with enthusiasm and excitement in the 2-day sports event organised by All Jammu & Kashmir Association of the Deaf in collaboration with J&K Sports Council and J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra Jammu. The games played at the Meet included badminton, 100 mtr race, chess, and carom board. The Samaj Kalyan Kendra runs the only School in the State for Deaf and Dumb. The Divisional Sports Officer, J&K Sports Council Ravi Singh was the Chief Guest and the Principal, Govt. Hari Singh Higher Secondary School, J K Padha was the Guest of Honour. They distributed medals and certificates among the winners. Suraj Bhan Singh of J&K Judo Association was also present. The President of Samaj Kalyan Kendra, K B Jandial lauded the initiative of Kamal Nain Bhan and his wife Madhbala Bhan, both deaf & dumb and President and Vice President of the Association and said that such sports events provided an opportunity to these specially abled youth to display their talent and prove that they are no less talented and competent as compared to normal youth. Jandial said that the Samaj Kalyan Kendra has taken many steps to encourage these children, both in the academics and sports. He said the Kendra has instituted cash awards for outstanding students. The topper in all Board examinations would be honoured with cash awards. Similar cash awards would be given to those sports person who bagged Medals at State or National level championship.
