Election Commission starts probe on bogus voters in MP
6/8/2018 10:21:40 PM

If the allegations of registering bogus voters in Madhya Pradesh are proved correct it may be a slap on the face of the BJP. Why the BJP? Since the complaint of such a big allegation has been lodged by the Congress before the Election Commission involvement of the BJP is visible. In case the Congress allegations are incorrect it would amount to denigration of the Congress which also indicates that the Congress has tried to go to any level to regain power in the MP. The Congress has accused the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of electoral misconduct by including the names of 60 lakh "fake voters" in the voters' list and requested the Election Commission (EC) to remove all such entries from the electoral rolls of the 230 Assembly constituencies in the state. Following these allegations, the EC formed four teams to look into the allegation. The teams will start their probe shortly and submit report by June 7.
A delegation of the party, led by Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath, met EC officials and alleged the BJP government in the state had included the names of 60 lakh fake voters in the electoral roll.
"We have given proof to the EC that the voters' list of Madhya Pradesh is fraudulent. Sixty lakh fake voters have been enlisted in it. We have conducted our own enquiry in 100 constituencies." We have given proof to the EC as regards how one voter has been enlisted in different constituencies with the same name, address and father's name. This cannot be any mistake, it has been done deliberately by the present Madhya Pradesh government," Nath has stated.
The Congress leaders also requested the EC for a special monitoring mechanism to remove all "multiple" and "demographically similar" entries and urged the poll panel to inform all the national political parties on an issue which is quite disturbing. Since MP Assembly election is round the corner and the Lok Sabha election is due in 2019 registering 60 lakh bogus voters could swing the fate in favour of the BJP and that too in the Assembly poll and the Lok Sabha elections.
If the Election Commission of India has constituted four teams it depends on the members of these teams to discern which side is correct. If the Congress claim is untenable it would be seen part of the Congress game to malign the BJP if it won both the Assembly and the Lok Sabha elections. If the Congress allegations are correct it may mean that the BJP was preparing to win both the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls by hook or by crook. And if the Congress allegations are confirmed by the Election Commission it may bring a bad name to the party whose main face is Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Well ostensibly the Congress allegations may be nothing but an exaggeration because in a state like MP registering 60 lakh bogus voters cannot be possible. It can happen only in Jammu and Kashmir but it is not possible after the first Assembly election in 1951 because the awareness of people have experienced marked transformation.
