SRINAGAR, June 21: Visit of a family that came from outside state to Sonamarg turned out to be a nightmarish experience as the manager of a Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (J&KTDC) subjected them to mental torture for two nights.
The family that reached Sonamarg on June 18 (Monday) requested the manager of Hotel Kongposh to turn on the generator since the electricity had gone off in the area. The manager instead of turning on the generator made excuses and said that he would not turn on the generator since it would lead to expenses.
"We simply requested the manager to turn on the electricity as there was no power at the hotel. In the first instance he said that he would not turn on the generator. Later on he said that he would run the generator for half an hour and as soon as the clock shows 11 in the night the generator would be turned off," said the tourist family.
The tourist family said that the manager acted as a 'dictator' and wanted the things to be done according to his own plan. They said that the official was inhospitable and did not treat them in the manner they should have been. They lamented that their experience at Sonamarg was no less than a nightmare.
"For the two consecutive nights there was no power at Sonamarg and we passed these nights in pitched darkness. We could not take a bath since the warm water was not available. When we asked the hotel authorities to arrange for a big bucket that would contain warm water they simply refused it saying that no such bucket is available for them," said the family.
The family said that the manger was so 'ill-mannered' that he entered into an argument with them even on small issues that could have been managed easily. They said that the senior members of group faced many problems in the absence of power, but that too did not move the 'arrogant' manager.
"During our tour we visited many places in Kashmir and at these places the hotel authorities were very hospitable. However, our joy was somewhat diluted by the errant manager of the hotel at Sonamarg. Action needs to be taken against such officials since they are a blot on the hospitality of Kashmir and its tourism," said the family.
