Early Times Report

BANDIPORA, June 22: Consultant anaesthesia works in theatre as there is no surgeon gynaecologist and orthopaedic theatre is totally non-functional in Gurez valley of this north Kashmir district.
According to sources, in November last year Dr Feroz Iqbal was posted at Gurez as consultant anaesthesia who works in theatre which is highly disgusting as there is no surgeon gynaecologist and ortho and theatre is totally non-functional.
"I'm being told to be there at your place of posting. I fail to understand why I have been put here as it seems that I have been told to do chowkidari of the hospital," sources quoting Dr Sahil as having said.
Sources told Early Times that the doctor has served for more than five years, and his wife Dr Shakeela has served for more than seven years here in Gurez. Whereas fact of the matter is that there are doctors who either served Gurez for a year or never served have not been touched by the previous regimes.
There are scores of doctors that belong to this border district, but due to their political approaches they have either served for a year or never served.
Some politically backed doctors were transferred to other parts of Kashmir, as they have never wished to serve their own hometown, and irony is that career of the couple doctors have been put on stake by some vested interests, sources alleged.
They said that most of the doctors that were selected from OBC/RBA quota were transferred and they are serving as medical officers and unfortunate part of the story is that they have not faced any examinations which were required for promotions.
Dr Shakeela has been serving in Gurez from past seven years, and the department concerned never bothered to give her a chance to visit out of her hometown so that she will get more practice in her own field, said sources.
Senior doctors were made subordinates to their juniors and they were given promotions as Block Medical Officers (BMOs) which is complete injustice with the system.
Higher authorities in the department have made them to suffer deliberately and they don't want to transfer them due to their personal interests, where as their own relatives and friends were promoted and transferred to other places, said sources.
The local residents of Gurez valley have appealed the Governor N N Vohra to look into the matter so that the career of the couple doctor will be saved.
