The district Administration Samba claimed that the decision of cancelation was taken on the inputs of the security agencies after killing of four BSF personnel by Pakistani Rangers who attacked the Indian Post at Ramgarh in this month.
The annual Mela of Baba Chamliyal is held on the last Thursday of June month and the event hog limelight at International level as the Mela is organized on both side of the countries. After attack on Indian post, the situation on border become tense caused impact on the annual function of Indian side. "It is very unfortunate that the District Administration Samba has withdrawn its hands for taking responsible to hold Mela but we have decided to the hold the function on their own," Ex Sarpanch Om Parkash.
The villagers of Chamliyal alleged that some vested interest political parties have pressurized the local administration for cancelling the event for their political mileage. The Mela is being organized for the past 350 years and the people of the both sides have strong belief for this sacred place. "The Mela has begun on the other side of village Saindawali in Pakistan and beating of the drums can be heard during day time but our administration has shown very cold response despite local people's request to hold the function" the villagers said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Samba, Tilak Raj Sharma when contacted said that they have taken decision of cancelation of programme after threadbare discussion with various security agencies and the decision was taken in the interest of the people. "The local people should understand the tense situation on the border but are not aware of the information that local committee is going to organize the annual mela," he said. SSP Samba Anil Magotra said "We should respect the martyrdom of the Jawans who were killed by the Pakistan Rangers and should drop the idea to the hold function this year. We should also remember that BSF used to participate in holding annual Mela."
