From day one of cobbling
of the coalition between the parties holding divergent political philosophies, it was predicted that the honeymoon between the North Pole and the South Pole will not last long. The same happened to the alliance of PDP and BJP government. The BJP has withdrawn support to the coalition government headed by PDP in a dramatic way. The BJP stalwart Ram Madav calls the decision of withdrawal of support to PDP as in the national interest. But the fact of matter is that it is all game of politics and there is no national interest in politics but party interest. So the leg pulling by BJP in dramatic manner is nothing short of power politics. True BJP has sacrificed power for the time being but it has done so for its future investment and dividends. The BJP has sacrificed present power for future power and for furthering their future prospects. The apparent national interest is in fact the party interest of BJP. One would like to ask the Pan Indian party the BJP as to where have their theme and theory of national interest gone during three years of their coalition rule? Was there no national interest or was there no need of national interest then? Then present decision of withdrawal of support to the PDP coalition government is only with an eye on general election 2019. BJP has withdrawn support to topple the coalition government for pleasing its core constituency in Jammu and the country at large. The withdrawal of support to the coalition government in a dramatic way has surprised political Pundits and observers as the three years honeymoon between the coalition partners has come to an end abruptly by the decision of the BJP to withdraw the support. Prime face it is an abrupt exercise by the BJP but if looked minutely it is a well thought out strategy of BJP think tank before 2019 general elections, as the decision has greater ramification for the future prospectus of the party and for the security situation of the disturbed state of J&K. The BJP tries to throw dust in the eyes of gullible people by terming the decision to be in national interest. The decision to withdraw support is a damage control exercise by the BJP as the image of the party in Jammu and elsewhere in the country has been dented to a great extent during the three year of their coalition rule and now they want to improve their standing among the core constituency in Jammu in particular and the country in general. The far reaching decision of the withdrawal of support to the government has been done with an eye on general elections of 2019 as the BJP wants to give an impression to the innocent masses that it means business so far as the J&K imbroglio is concerned. The BJP stated that the situation has turned worse and it could not continue in coalition government with PDP as there is radicalization and increase in the killings of security forces and stone pelting and that the coalition has failed to bring peace to disturbed valley. It is a fact that situation has worsened in Kashmir and it seems to be back to 1990 hay days of militancy and the governor's rule will help to improve the security situation in the state. But the BJP cannot escape from its responsibility of the failures of the government of which the BJP was the party. The BJP crawled when it was asked to bent by its senior coalition partner PDP. The BJP while in power did not work to eradicate chronic discrimination meted out to Jammu and Ladakh during the seven decades of self rule and freedom at the hands of valley based regional satraps. The BJP as the younger coalition partner has put the election eve promises into dust bin for its cozy chairs. It was better for BJP not to have aligned with regional party PDP for few loves of power. However, governor rule is the only option at the present as the political scenario is such that no party or parties were willing to form a government in the state. The governor's rule will definitely improve the prevailing murkier situation in the disturbed state. The BJP has only furthered the interests and aspirations of the regional and Kashmir centric PDP during more than three years of working in coalition and in the process has earned only the wrath of the patriotic people of Jammu and of its core constituency. The people of Jammu have seen that BJP while in coalition has worked at the beck and call of PDP and has failed to restrain the PDP in following pro-secessionist policies like withdrawing of cases of about ten thousand stone pelters and in issuing a tribal affairs department order restraining police and revenue authorities from vacating the illegal occupation of government land in Jammu, Samba and Kathua by the nomadic community of Gujjars and Bakarwals. Not only this, the BJP has failed to pressurize the coalition government of which it was a part to hand over the Rasana rape cum murder case of a nomadic girl to CBI. The CBI demand is the genuine demand of the peace loving and the patriotic people of Jammu division and the BJP has failed to impress PDP led coalition government to hand over the Rasana case to CBI for giving justice to the nomadic girl and in bringing the real culprits to book. BJP has only helped the Kashmir centric regional parties indirectly in projecting Jammuities as pro rapists. Now having failed to contain terrorism and radicalization, the BJP is parroting the theme and theory of having worked in national interest by withdrawing support to the coalition government. The fact is there are few takers of this view of the cadre based party. Agreed that the BJP has sacrificed power but it is amply clear that they have sacrificed present power for the future power. The BJP wants to revive its sagging support base in its core constituency and for future power it has sacrificed the present power. Under power opium and the pressure tactics of PDP, the BJP has shelved its core theme and issue of article 370 of the Indian constitution and has consigned it in the dust bin of history only to remain glued to power. The BJP has also failed to repeal article 35 (A) permanent resident act. Between BJP-PDP three and a half year rule, the BJP has failed miserably to better the lot of the people of Jammu and Ladakh and to do away with the decades long discrimination with these regions under the pressure tactics of PDP. Yes for BJP article 370 is the core issue when not in power in the state and while in power they have shelved it for sharing power with PDP. What a ridiculous and double standard! Withdrawal of support to PDP led coalition will only further the political fortunes of BJP notwithstanding the fact that the governor's rule will lead to an improvement in the security situation in the state. The local militants and the youth have been radicalized and they are up in arms against the security forces. The central rule will definitely have an upper hand so far as security environment is concerned. But the fact remains that the BJP has divorced from PDP in order to consolidate its core constituency in Jammu and other states which has been weakened by the failures and actions of PDP BJP coalition government. BJP cannot absolve itself of the failures of the coalition government so far as peace in J&K is concerned. The withdrawal of support by BJP is nothing but can definitely be termed as the Kissa Kursi ka and nothing beyond that.
