People rue delay in construction of Kulna-Gujjar Basti road

Kishtwar, June 24: The inhabitants of village Kulna of Palmar area in Kishtwar District today rued unnecessary delay in execution of the work on Kulna-Gujjar Basti road sanctioned by the previous NC-Congress government under PMGSY.
Speaking to "Early Times", a local said that the work on the road 6 KM was started in 2010 and till 2014 around 4 KM road has been completed, but in 2014 due to instant rains and flesh floods across the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the road was badly damaged due rains and landslides.
He said that after 2014 landslide, the PMGSY stopped work on the road 8jabandoned and even local MLC Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo provided Rs. 3 lacs out of his CDF funds to clear the slips and landslides on this road through RDD. They said that in addition to MLC Sajjad Ahmed, the people out of its own resources cleared the slips and landslides upto 3 KM and make the road traffic worthy without any help of the government added that even the condition of the said 3 KM road is very poor and it took around 45 minutes to the vehicle cover the 3 KM distance. The people said that the population of this Schedule Tribe village is around one thousand with 90% of Gujjar population. "Despite repeated request to Executive Engineer PMGSY Kishtwar, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and other concern officers, nothing has been done so far in last four years to complete the road" said Ashwani Parihar. He said that the material component of the contractor is still lying on the side of the road added that even some contractors even did not paid money by the department while no compensation has been paid to the land owners.
He said that the land owners even grows crops on the road alignment as they have not been paid the compensation added that people were feed up with non serious approach of the executing agencies and had leave to visit any government office since last several months. They said that they even visited the local collector office for land compensation, but nothing was done by them as well leaving people high and dry. The people said that they even visited the former Minister and present local MLA Sunil Kumar Sharma, but nothing was done by him as well added that after imposition of governor rule in the state, they hope that the government will take serious note of the delay delayed tactics of the executing agencies and urged upon the Governor N N Vohra and its advisors to look into the issue beside to direct the concern agencies to complete the work on remaining two kilometer road stretch as well as make the present 4 KM road traffic worthy by black topping it on top priority.
