Agencies
MUMBAI: Several residents were trapped, vehicles buried under debris after the ground near an under-construction residential building collapsed in Wadala East as rains continued to wreck havoc in Mumbai on Monday morning. No reports of casualties or injuries have emerged yet. All persons trapped in the building have now been rescued.

According to authorities, seven cars were damaged after wall of the under-construction building collapsed at Vidyalankar road in Wadala's Antop Hill. Rescue operations are still currently underway. On Sunday, two persons died and five injured after a tree fell on them near Metro Cinema. Heavy rains caused havoc in the Maximum city, with city life grinding to a halt. The Indian Meteorological Department predicted heavy to very heavy rains will continue in the region. A high-tide is expected at 10:43 am with waves expected to be 4 meters / 14 feet high.

Incessant rainfall caused waterlogging at several junctions including railway tracks, disrupting local train services. Slow moving traffic is also being reported from several parts of the city.

Waterlogging was reported from the Mumbai - Pune Expressway, Morarji Nagar Powai via JVLR, Filterpada powai via JVLR, Siddharth hospital Goregaon, Chembur Fatak via diamond garden route no:360,357, Sion Road No 24 via main road, Pratiksha Nagar via Jai Shankar Yadlik Marg, National College Bandra via Khar Signal Link Road and Maheshwari Udyaan via Bhaudaji Road King Circle

Due to heavy rainfall trains running between Thane and Byculla stations were delayed up to 20 minutes.

Nearly 26 flights have been delayed so far.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials placed pumps on stand-by as many low-lying areas in the city reported water logging.

Suburban Malad (West) recorded the highest amount of rainfall at 110.80 mm between 8:30am and 4:30pm on Sunday, an Indian Meteorological Department official said.
