Army pays homage to Kargil martyr

Rajouri, July 8: Army on Saturday paid homage to Kargil war hero rifleman Sardar Hardeep Singh of 8 Sikh regiment and also unveiled his bust at memorial at his home village Rajpur Bhatta in Qula Darhal tehsil in Rajouri district. The martyr had laid down his life for the mother land on 7th July 1999 during Kargil War (OP Vijay). The celebration for the unavailing his memorial were started on July 5 with beginning of Akhand Path in and today a Guru -ka-Langar was organized which was joined by hundreds of people. Today Brig Kuljit Singh, Commander Infantry Brigade (at Narian) also unveiled the bust of the Kargil war hero who had attained martyrdom at the age of 21 years while confronting the enemy on a forward area of Kargil. His parents father Sardar Inder Singh and mother Maan Kour despite being poor farmers had motivated their son to join Army. "I feel honored and proud that my son Hardeep Singh had sacrificed his life for the motherland" said Inder Singh. Harbaksh Singh family member and Zorawar Singh, social activist also remembered the martyr and his passion for army and serving the nation. "A long cherished wish of the parents of late Hardeep Singh was fulfilled with unveiling of his memorial in the village. Memorial will remain as a source of inspiration for all coming generations" said Brigade Commander.
