Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 8: "I want to see my son, who went missing in Pakistan two years ago, before I die," This is an emotional appeal of a mother to the Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj with a hope to find out the whereabouts of his missing son.
Nearly two years ago, Mian Bashir, who had gone to visit his relatives in Gujranwala, Pakistan, has not returned home yet. In search of the head of the family, the entire family is running from pillar to post but not being affluent or having an approach is making them to live with the fear that they might not be able to see Mian Bashir again.
When activist Dr Hitender Mahajan, who is trying to help the family by bringing the matter to the notice of concerned authorities, talked to the family of Mian Bashir yesterday, his daughter, Zulekha could not stop her tears and started crying over apathy shown by the system towards tracing whereabouts of her father who went missing in Pakistan, two years before. She alleged that her father had gone to Pakistan to visit their relatives with a valid passport and visa and after reaching Pakistan he had also informed of his wellbeing by making a phone call. She also said that her father had informed that he would return soon. But something happened in Pakistan that he did not return till now. She said they were not powerful people and don't have resources to go to Pakistan to look for her father so the government should help them in tracing their missing father in Pakistan.
Mian Bashir's mother Ilma Bibi said, "My last wish is that I can meet my son, who went missing in Pakistan, before I die. She also appealed to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to locate Mian Bashir in Pakistan.
Social activist Dr Hitender Mahajan is trying to take the voice of this family to the government and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. He has tweeted to Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in this regard. After getting no reply on the social media site Twitter, he has appealed to the Foreign Minister by writing an on her official e-mail ID to help this poor family to trace whereabouts of their head of family, Mian Bashir.
Dr Mahajan said that on July 1, India and Pakistan have exchanged with each other the lists of prisoners lodged in their respective jails. According to this list 471 Indian prisoners are currently languishing in Pakistani jails. In which 53 prisoners are civilians and remaining are fishermen. Dr Mahajan said that we have asked the External Affairs Minister whether the name of Mian Bashir is in this list or not? He said that we have appealed to the External Affairs Minister that if his (Mian Bashir) name is not there in this list then it should be ascertained through the Indian Embassy in Pakistan that, after all, where Mian Bashir is? He said that being an international matter it can only be resolved by the Ministry of External Affairs.
He added that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has helped many Indians trapped abroad. Hopefully she will help this Gujjar Bakkarwal family in this case too.
