| Despite funds, Rajouri Municipality ignores bus stand | | |  Early Times Report
Rajouri, July 15: Despite multiple sources of income and special funding under various schemes, the Municipal Committee (MC) officials here at Rajouri failed to carry out urgent repairs/ black topping at the existing bus stand.
The bus stand also sans basic facilities including passenger sheds, safe drinking water, clean toilet blocks, proper arrangement of night lights etc since a long time.
"The levelling and black topping work at bus stand was taken in hands about three years ago and is still in progress without any major improvement. Potholes filled with filthy rain water along with garbage at every corner and stray animals making the commuters face problems while boarding buses for their homes" said a shopkeeper at bus stand.
Absence of passenger sheds force commuters to take shelter inside the shops to save themselves from rain and scorching heat. Only toilet block mostly remain unhygienic and male prefers to ease themselves in the drains while females face many difficulties and many times they ease themselves in the private toilets. Prime Minister's Swatch Bharat Abhiyan has no relevance in the absence of proper disposal of solid waste and MC employees dump the garbage near the bus stand as the authorities have yet to identify the land for the proposed project for the disposal of solid waste.
Idle parking of buses and private vehicles add more problems for the commuters at this already very congested bus stand.
In the month of February District Magistrate had issued an order directing the stake holders and MC officials not to allow the idle parking but the order is still waiting for its implementation.
After several complaints and the issue raised by the habitants of old Rajouri town, M.A. Asad, Deputy Commissioner in the late night hours visted the town along with Manzoor Lone, Executive Officer (EO) Rajouri , Mehmood Khan, tehsildar and after spot visiting issued directions to EO for the construction of passenger shed, toilet complex at bus stand and black topping of main bus stand.
