Early Times Report BANDIPORA, July 17: The drug addiction among the youth is on rise, parents are in a state of shock but administration is least bothered about the crime which is taking place day in and day out in scores of villages in this north Kashmir district. According to sources in Bandipora district there are various areas where drug abuse is rampant. These villages include Argam, Malangam, Garoora, Gund, Kudura, Kunas, Sonagaam and Shamthan areas. Likewise in Sonawari belt, youth of age 14-18 years in some areas like Ganastan, Gund Jahangir, Gundi Saderkoot, Madwan, Tirgam and other areas are taking drugs and thus has put a negative impact on the budding youth, sources told early times. They said that drugs often make addicts its slaves by trapping the upcoming generation especially teenagers and youth. Jammu and Kashmir is not far from its tight grip of addiction among children and adolescents higher than any other group and if the same was not controlled it may grip other young boys in the near future, sources informed. Sources said that various drugs were readily available in the district and the youngsters aged between 12 to 19 years were seen buying them without any inhibition, though police have put raids many times in past, but again they have been involved in the anti social activities. "It is worthwhile to mention here that easy availability of drugs has put common masses tight lipped as smuggling of drugs like cannabis is taking place in the evening time, even brown sugar from across the border is of course a worrisome issue and has to be tackled on very urgent basis, sources said. However according to sources that, local residents have caught many youth in the recent past and then they were handed over to the police, but again the youth were seen taking drugs. They also believe that drugs go by different names on the street than their actual name in order to make communication confidential between the teens and a dealer. They have requested the police and other law enforcing agencies to deal sternly with the drug peddlers so that the crime could be eradicated forever and check other menace in the area. |
