Khyber hospital authorities take people for ride; provide rotten, sub-standard food to patients

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 18: Private hospitals and nursing homes operating in the Kashmir valley are taking the people for a ride and despite receiving hefty sums from the patients the services being provided by these health institutions are below par.
In a typical example of mismanagement and loot, Khyber hospital located in the Nowpora area of the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir is providing rotten and sub-standard food items to the patients admitted there for one reason or another.
"The hospital authorities without caring for the consequences whatsoever supplies rotten food items to the patients. A patient comes to the hospital with the hope that he or she would get well. However, when sub-standard food is provided how one can expect that patients would recover at this hospital," said a family while sharing details with Early Times.
The members of this family said that their patient was given rotten eggs at the hospital. They said that when the issue was brought in the notice of the management the hospital authorities apologized and asked them not to publicize the matter.
"It was sheer negligence on part of the hospital authorities and in fact it is a criminal act. The higher ups of the hospital told us not to raise the issue especially before the media. If this is the condition of the food stuff one can easily understand the condition of the things where the common man does not have any access," said the family members.
Yet another family complained about the non-availability of senior doctors at this hospital saying that doctors with less experience are assigned jobs supposed to be carried out by senior professionals. They said that accountability is missing at the hospital and there is nobody to listen to the grievances of the attendants of a particular patient.
It would be in place to mention here that Khyber hospital has been in news for wrong reasons for all these reasons. Not long ago a female patient developed serious health complications after the surgery carried out on her failed and she almost died. It was only after the efforts of doctors at SKIMS-Soura that the life of this patient was saved.
The surgeon concerned said that he is not bothered about the condition of a patient after a surgery is carried. The surgeon said that his only job is to carry out the surgery without thinking about the consequences thereof.
