Four Lanning of NH44 poses threat for environment | | | Early Times Report RAMBAN, July 31: While executing big projects agencies hamper environment by violating the terms, conditions and norms fixed on National and International levels by different authorities. One such glaring example of national project of Four lanning on Jammu Kashmir national highway becomes the cause of damaging the environment as construction agencies continuously dump the muck in river Chenab and other water bodies. In this regard Swaran Kishor Advocate lodged a complaint with the National Green Tribunal for protecting the environment and preventing river Chenab from pollution and shrinking, after which the National Green Tribunal summoned all four lanning road project companies and contractors in May 2016. It is pertinent to mention here that Divisional Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma on the directions of the National Green Tribunal, directed the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban to take strict action whosoever illegally dumping the muck and debris and violate the norms. Meanwhile, petitioner Swaran Kishor said that the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal are being violated adding that the administration should implement the guidelines so that the environment and the river Chenab can be saved. He further said that now the time has come that we will have to start a campaign 'Chenab Bachao Andolan' by coming together and if we still remain silent than it is not far that we will have to bring the water from other parts of the state. He maintained that due to illegal dumping in Chenab, the flow of water decreasing day by day resulting shrinking of water bodies. "It is suspicious that why the state as well as district administration are not able to implement the directions of the National Green Tribunal", he added. |
