JAMMU, Aug 8: JKSRLM (UMEED) has helped some self help groups of Pouni and Reasi by giving them Revolving fund of Rs. 15000/SHG for starting their livelihood.
Sudeen Village of Block Pouni district Reasi is famous for bamboo basketry, produced by "Arooshi" self-help group. The community of basket weaver purchased the bamboo (Rough material) from nearby area with the help of Revolving Fund (RF) of Rs. 15000/SHG from JKSRLM (Umeed) and started their livelihood in the form of bamboo basketry.
Divided into several self-help groups, these SHG members weave baskets of various sizes. Firstly the bamboo strands are cut and the skin of bamboo plant is shaved. These strands are then placed criss-cross and weaved into a pattern.
The marketing of bamboo baskets and product is peak during festivals and harvesting season in Pouni, Reasi . These weavers make four to five baskets a day which depends on the pace with which they make and flair they possess. It is priced between Rs.100 to 300 based on the size. At the end of the day, these SHG members (weavers) earn income of Rs. 500 to 1000 which is sufficient to full fill their basic needs of their families. In addition to this some of the SHG members have started to invest money into other livelihoods which will help them to generate more income. |
