Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 8: Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Lower Hathal of Tehsil Sundebani of Rajouri District has allegedly misused his position by declaring school building of Government Girls Primary School Nahoti condemned on his own and got new building constructed just for the sake of monetary benefits. Sources in the department told Early Times that Government Girls Primary School Nahoti was running in a building of three rooms and attached bathroom since its inception but incumbent ZEO Lower Hathal declared the building unfit for use and got sanctioned new building in 2015 which was completed at the cost of Rs 8 lakhs. "Although the condition of the previous building was not bad and needed some repair which could have done in just Rs 1 lakh but ignoring the repair aspect of the building, the ZEO left it abandoned and a new building was constructed with the expenditure of Rs 8 lakh which could have been otherwise saved," they alleged further adding the before declaring the building condemned, no expert advice was sought.
As per guidelines, an engineer has to be assigned the job to ascertain the condition and strength of the building and after his advice further course of action is taken whether building need repair and should be condemned. They further informed that many officials had requested the ZEO to consult an expert engineer but he brushed aside the guidelines and got constructed new building obviously for personal interest and wasted the State exchequer. The locals expressed strong resentment against the ZEO Lower Hathal for wasting huge money which could have been utilized in other works. They demanded Vigilance enquiry and sought FIR against the ZEO.
