Girl attempts suicide after alleged rape in Majalta

Jammu, Aug 8: A minor girl today attempted to commit suicide by allegdelly consuming some poisonous substance after perporated rape attempt in her.
The family members alleged that the minor girl resident of Jakhanoo was allegedly raped by a local and then, the police did not register the case against the accused person.
When the issue pressed by the family members, a local sarpanch tried to hush-up the case with active involvement of police following which the minor alleged rape victim was compelled to take extreme step.
"She made bid on her life. The victim was rushed to the hospital Majalta from where she was rushed to the Udhampur hospital. As her condition was serious, the minor girl was referred to SMGS Jammu hospital for specialized treatment. Her condition is stated to be critical. Meanwhile, the family members have accused the police for not listening to them and instead, trying to compel the victims to compromise the case for Rs 2 lakhs. Seniir Superintendent of Police (SSP) Udhampur-Rayees Mohd Bhat said that the family never approached the police and they came to know about the matter only after father if the Victim levelled allegations in Jammu.
He further said that Investigation Officer was sent to the hospital for registration of statements of the girl but she was not fit for statement.
