To win Kargil, BJP attacks dynastic politics
Autonomous council polls
8/9/2018 11:37:28 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 9: The BJP has done it again. It has opposed and denounced dynastic politics of the Congress, the Abdullahs and the Muftis and this time, to win the Autonomous Hill Development Council (AHDC) Kargil elections. On Wednesday, the BJP leaders asserted that "no real development took place in Kargil due to the dynastic politics of the Congress, NC and PDP" and claimed that "had the district been under its rule, it would have developed on par with any other region of the country". BJP leaders from Jammu, who have been camping in Kargil for many days now to ensure the BJP victory in the Shia-dominated district of the state, urged the residents of what they called the "crucial district in Jammu & Kashmir" must throw the 'promoters of dynastic politics' out of power", adding that "Kargil would have developed on par with any other region of the country had political outfits like Congress, NC and PDP not encouraged and promoted dynastic rule in the state". "Since the Congress, NC and PDP regimes continued to patronage their wards and kin, people were never empowered and were left to fend for themselves," the BJP leaders also said. Political parties can change tack anytime. It is the same BJP, which had opposed the dynastic politics of Abdullahs and Muftis, saying the "Baap-Beta" (Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah) and the "Baap-Beti" (late Mufti Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti) during the 2014 Lok Sabha and Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections and won the elections hands down. It had won both the Lok Sabha seats and 25 out of 37 Assembly seats in Jammu, creating a history of sorts. All had hoped that the BJP, which didn't have the numbers to form government in the state, would sit on the opposition benches. But the BJP sprung a big surprise when it announced on February 25 that it had decided to form coalition government under the PDP. The PDP-BJP coalition government was formed on March 1, 2015. The government fell on June 19, when the BJP withdrew support to CM Mehbooba Mufti. In between, the BJP defended the Muftis to the hilt ands not even once talked about the dynastic politics of the Muftis. It is difficult to say whether the people will buy the BJP's anti-dynastic remarks considering the manner in which it behaved till June 19. The memory of what the BJP did before and during the PDP-BJP rule still lingers in the people's mind.
