Early Times Report
Anantnag, Aug 13: In South Kashmir's Anantnag district, the Health department has failed to make 'Modern Hospital' Dooru operational despite passing of almost one year.
The hospital was constructed at a cost of Rs 11.50 crore by the Roads and Buildings department.
This year, according to officials, the hospital was equipped with all the latest machinery including CT scan, USG, bio-chemistry and Analyzer, etc.
The costly machinery is gathering dust from last over ten months now, the officials said.
They said the authorities have failed to make the hospital operational despite completing the construction process and equipping the hospital with machinery and other facilities.
Few months ago, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was scheduled to inaugurate the hospital. The event was, however, cancelled at the last moment when locals resisted shifting of sub-district hospital to the 'Modern Hospital Building.
The government's decision to shift the sub-district hospital Dooru to the newly constructed hospital has led to a tussle between the authorities and the people of the area. With the result, the 'model hospital' continues to remain locked.
The 'model hospital' was announced for the township soon after the PDP-BJP coalition government took over. However, Congress claims that previous government (NC-Congress) sanctioned an additional building block for already existing SDH in the area in 2010 and PDP-BJP regime chose the same building for setting up of the model hospital.
Then Health minister had told residents of Dooru Shahbad that the 'modern hospital' will be a separate healthcare facility for the area with modern facilities but now the health department is trying to befool the people by shifting the sub-district hospital to the newly constructed building.
"What is the fun of providing the facility to the area when one such facility is shut," locals told Early Times.
They sought the intervention and Governor N N Vohra and appealed him to make the hospital operational so that it benefits the poor populace.
