PHD versus Punishment, Harassment and Depletion
Priyanka Gupta8/14/2018 11:06:47 PM
The highest and the most prestigious degree in the world are earned not as easy as of others degree. The hard work and consistency in studies is one of the most important parts of any degree. But in this doctorate degree a scholar needs his/her destiny to be assigned not by God, but by their so called supervisors. For PhD degree the guide is amongst all and above god, parents and everything as heard by senior scholars. The universities are harassing the scholars mentally, physically and psychologically. The depletion of a scholar in this degree is really the matter of concern. The higher authorities should interfere and come across this matter seriously. The scholars I guarantee who did not fulfill the demands of their supervisors have to face the adverse effects, such as termination, misplacing of their files and records and above all not giving them directions which lead to their compete decline. This is really heart wrenching that the scholar has to sacrifice his/her societal, personal and most important his/her golden years in which they can't join any job or go anywhere.
The worst harassment in this degree is the lack of 'responsible' and 'committed' supervisor, which in these days are hard to find. Lucky and fortunate are those who are blessed with a good and responsible guide and mentors. I will focus here the word 'responsible' for a certain reason that in a PhD nothing is more important than this. You didn't require food, clothes and other luxurious things if you are blessed with good and friendly mentor. If you are not so lucky like me than you didn't need any recommendations and favor but if not than you need to stay in a campus for long time, fulfill the fees and have to bear the wrath of your supervisors. This is not enough but you need to please their family, arrange all the groceries, babysit their children, look into their problems, arrange their trips and above all you need to lose your dignity. You need to kill your emotions, feelings and work like a puppet without saying anything. A human is dead inside you and you are like a bird in cage that is dying to fly but his/her feet is caught in the chain. It does not matter that the chain is hurting the bird, but a scholar is compared to bird who is once caught in the department didn't go back to nature or home easily.
This is not the end but the movie is yet to be displayed as there is the trend of shifting the so called supervisors to some better place for their growth and better job security. One should be selfish in today's time, but not at least at the cost of life of a scholar who has sacrificed everything for this prestigious degree. A scholar is someone children who has not much but certain aspirations, hope and plan for their future which is in the hands of their supervisors. The mean, witty and shrewdness of these people can't be judged. As they will make you believe that they are their best friends but in reality they are just passing their time and using the scholars like tissue papers and when they are done with you they will throw you out of their cabins, and throe you into garbage. As Lord Krishna says that one has to sow what he/she shall sow. I didn't believe in the truth of this phrase anymore. Maybe in future this has some relevance. The culture of research in our country is depleting day by day because of the tantrums of the supervisors and obviously the higher authorities who are playing with the life of thousands of scholars. A scholar community is the most suppressed and harassed community, who need to speak not for themselves but at least for their parents and family. Yes the interference is must in this case by higher authorities as nobody else can say anything. But if the higher authorities are not paying attention in this matter then the case is severe and results in more suicides and killings because of the intense pressure and harassment. Either the culture of research in our country should be banned or elevated to some dignity so that a scholar should be not ashamed of him/herself. And it is pertinent to mention that the higher authorities should strictly look into this. Rather than imposing new rules and regulations they should channelize the present system of research so that a researcher should be confident and proud of this esteemed degree which is doctorate rather than it appeared as punishment for family and scholar, Harassment and Depletion of moral values from the life of scholars. Either the culture of repressing the scholars should be checked seriously or the research should be abandoned. So that there is no human rights violation and no scholar should commit suicide as he is not left with any option. That is it is better he/she commit suicide than sharing his pathetic condition.
