Early Times Report
Anantnag, Aug 16, 2018: Majority of the Members of Legislative Assembly representing assembly segments of Anantnag district shockingly didn't attend Independence Day function in this southern district.
Also politicians representing National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, and Congress also stayed away from the function despite being invited by the district administration.
However, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who represents Anantnag assembly segment in legislative assembly, attended Independence Day function in Srinagar where Governor N N Vohra unfurled the National flag
BJP legislator Sofi Yousf along with his District President Rafiq Ahmad Wani and other party workers also attended the function. They also took out a rally from Housing Colony Khanabal to Khanbal chowk and raised Pro-India slogans.
Officials, who attended the Independence Day function, were surprised over the absence of legislators and politicians residing 50ft away from the venue.
"We don't understand why they didn't attend the function despite being the members of legislative assembly," an officer whishing not be named said.
He said that all the politicians and legislators are residing in Housing colony Khanabal and it wasn't so difficult for them to arrive at the venue. "Its Walkable distance as distance between college- venue for Independence Day function and Government housing Colony where these politicians' reside," he added.
The district administration had sent invitations to around three dozen politicians and also provided them additional invitation cards for their workers and loyalists but none among them turned to attend the function.
