Early Times Report
Rajouri, Aug 18: Senior officials of Forest Department Rajouri have allegedly embezzled Rs 12 lakhs in creation of closure by Forest division Nowshera.
Sources in the department informed that few years ago, Forest Department Rajouri had created a closure under compartment number 116/N Peerbandesar in Nowshera at the cost of Rs 16 lakhs under the supervision of concerned Range Officer, Block Officer and District Rajouri.
"In this closure, the plantation of around 16000 saplings of different varieties was to be carried out but as a matter of fact only 1000-1500 saplings were planted and it is claimed that only Rs 4 lakhs were spent and rest of the fund which was around Rs 12 lakhs was embezzled by the seniors," they alleged further adding that number of complaints were lodged against this issue to the head office of the department by the local people who noticed the scam in the scheme.
They alleged that there have been many incidents in past also when issue of corruptions was surfaced in the division in earlier also. Some former officers were involved in the number of embezzlements. Although the concerned DFO was directed to conduct the inquiry in this matter but nothing was done obviously to save the culprit. The people demanded vigilance inquiry in this matter. Despite repeated attempts to contact Chief Conservative Forest Officer could not be reached. Pertinently, the main objective of the creating closure was to achieve a mission of making Jammu and Kashmir a green state by raising plantation at every nook and corner of the state.
