Kishtwar, Aug 21: Despite losing several lives in road accidents, over loading of passenger vehicles goes unchecked in majority of areas in Kishtwar District.
As per the video available with "Early Times", An ECO bearing Registration No. JK17-5302 was found overloaded with over 20 passengers in Chatroo area of the District. In 31 Second video, the Eco vehicle is clearly seen overloaded with passengers. Some passengers could be seen on the roof top of the vehicle while at the same time, few passengers were clearly seen hanging at the back of the vehicle while the vehicle was on its way Chingam to Water some 45 KM from Kishtwar.
Despite request by the people not to put the lives of the people to risk, the driver did not listen.
Similarly a bus bearing Registration No. JK17-6541 was also seen overloaded with passengers at roof top of the vehicle while some passengers were also seen hanging at the back of the vehicle. Surprisingly the police person in uniform instead of taking the action against the driver of the vehicle has boarded the same overloaded bus for his journey as well in Sarthal-Saroor area of the District.
Another vehicle bearing Registration No. JK17-2337 was seen carrying passengers at its back as well as on the roof top along with LPG cylinders and thus puts the lives of the people at risk. The people send several photographs of overloaded passenger vehicles to Early Times seeking action against the transporters for putting the lives of the people at risk.
When the matter was brought into the notice of senior police officials, they assured action against the erring drivers as well as against the owners of the vehicles. They said that few months ago, Kishtwar police register FIRs against such vehicle owners as well as against the drivers under the relevant sections of the law.
Similar action was assured by the ARTO Kishtwar who inform the "Early Times" that motor vehicle department has cancel the permits of the vehicle for overloading menence. He also assured action in this regard as well. He said that the public cooperation is important in dealing with such problems. He said that department is carrying frequent exercise by challenging vehicles, seizure of vehicle to check the traffic violations however he added that it is not possible for the department to keep track of each and every passenger vehicle in Kishtwar District having the road length of nearly 600-700 KM road length right from Thatri to Sinthan top, Kishtwar to Sansari Nallah, Thatri to Bhunjwah, Sarthal, Saroor, Marwah, Warwan, Thakrie, Keshwan, Sigdi, Patimhala and other local routes.
