Forest department retrieves 400 kanals of encroached land

Rajouri, Aug 23: Forest department under the supervision of Dr Jatinder Singh, Conservative and Vijay Kumar, DFO (Nowshera ) has retrieved about 400 kanals of encroached forest land in Kangri area in Siot tehsil under Sunderbani Forest Division in Rajouri district.
Sources said that the involvement of few revenue and forest officials in the encroachment can't be ruled out because the matter was raised by social activists when he had approached the Grievance Cell of the State Government.
In a quick response to the complaint Governor's administration directed the concerned senior Forest Department officials to conduct inquiry and take action.
'Yesterday a team from the forest department including DFO and Arif Mirza, Range Officer rushed to the area and by removing the temporary fencing made around the encroached land in forest compartment 43/D made up of dry bushes by the encroachers and retrieved the land.
"The land was encroached by 3-4 local families including of two brother Abdul Majid and Abdul Hameed who had raised wooden / stone fencing around the encroached land" said sources.
DFO, Vijay Verma said that initially the land was used only to grow fodder but in future it can't be denied that the encroacher would claim for the ownership of the land under various governments' schemes.
Dr Ram Chander (retd) is chairman of Refugee Welfare & Education Society (RW&ES), Sunderbani who had raised the issue with the 'grievance cell on-line has thanked the Governor's administration for quick response.
People of the area and Dr Ram Chander has appealed to the senior forest officials to demarcate the encroached land with the help of Revenue department and also remove encroachment if any found during demarcation process.
